Robotics | Big Ideas 2024
The convergence of AI and hardware should enable generalizable robotics. Robots are outperforming humans in factory settings and should do so in many domains in the future. As hardware and software costs decline according to Wright’s Law, AI should continue to improve productivity and create a new market opportunity for generalizable robotics that, at scale, could potentially exceed $24 trillion in revenue annually.
A tradition since 2017, “Big Ideas” is ARK’s seminal document, offering a comprehensive analysis of technological convergence and its potential to revolutionize industries and economies at a global scale. At the heart of this report lies thorough research, meticulously conducte...

Electric Vehicles | Big Ideas 2024
Просмотров 7 тыс.21 день назад
After increasing in response to supply chain disruptions, battery costs now are falling in line with Wright’s Law, leading to lower electric vehicle (EV) sticker prices. If robotaxi platforms proliferate, EVs could account for 95-100% of vehicle sales in 2030. ARK forecasts that electric vehicle sales will scale 33% at an annual rate during the next seven years, from roughly 10 million in 2023 ...

The Tesla robotaxi fleet will initially be majority private-owned at first, fleet owned in the mid-term, and Tesla owned in the long term. With Optimus, there will be no reason for Tesla to transfer the profits of fleet ownership to private equity-owned fleets, when Tesla still covers the insurance. For the robotaxi models, those will end up going straight into the Tesla fleet, to monetize daily for years.

With more robots we won't be losing our jobs, we will in fact be working way more! Forgot 2nd job! You will have 6 different jobs that you can do at the same time to avoid any down time. Managers will be able to integrate ai into your homes to make sure you are actually sick when using sick days off! With robotics, we will also be able to bring down salaries even further which means more productivity for everyone! (employers)

I wonder to what degree we will program the robots to have agency. Say we have a housekeeper robot, and I buy one for my house. Obviously it will do the things I ask it to do, but will it also just start doing things on its own? Will it start gardening because I have a garden and I wasn't doing anything with it. Will it clean some part of the house even though I didn't ask it too. Will it organize some cupboard because it figured out there is a more efficient way. Will it tell me all the items in my house that I haven't used in a while and ask me if I want to keep them.

Too little, to late.. what is needed is a humanoid type robot that can wipe asses (of the rich). I'll be buying Chinese.. because they offer one now. but it has to run locally and big tech - big business want to lease and control.. but they trusted 'the science'.. 2030 is going to be very interesting. I don't use a dishwasher, because they are a failure and doesn't get the job done on time or with the need to clean (actually a washing machine not used everyday can become toxic). The Clothes washer always under-fills and leaves soap on the clothes, evem with a double rinse if the tub is filled more than 1/3 full.. so your data is crap and 'toxic". Plus, you really said nothing... Chat GTP 4.0 style.

Yes, you can buy shares in robotic businesses and companies that utilize robotics but what about the company whose business is to link up citizens with robot(ics) as a means in itself? Educate me please.

I look forward to humanoid robots as gardeners and farmers. Most houses have some area where they could garden, but it is a hassle and tedious. But the best veggies and fruits are fresh off the vine. I look forward to having the robot grow me a bunch of tomatoes, basil, onions, potatoes, apples, apricots, etc. I think the irony of robots gardening is a more organic diet for me.

You. Ha! Seriously, though, we need to start preparing society for the automation of cognitive and physical labor. Good luck, given our current broken government. However, I’m still a techno optimist. Implementing something like Milton Friedman’s negative income tax, also known as zero tax plan, as well as some type of guaranteed income or data dividends distributed to society from the frontier AI companies who have built the models that will replace humans which, were trained on vast amounts of data generated by humans, will certainly at least mitigate the widespread negative effects of the age of automation. But is that enough to safeguard the wellbeing of humanity?! I definitely want to see a more efficient marketplace but not at the expense of droves of humans being discarded and hence thrown into socioeconomic hardship.

I think the bigger picture was missed. Assuming there is big money in robotaxis as is suggested, very quickly what is likely to happen, is that big business will start buying up robo capable cars in far greater number than the folks putting their personal cars into the robo network. That will in turn affect the balance of supply/demand, and will drive the cost of new vehicles up significantly, in the same way we have seen housing prices shoot through the roof, since Wallstreet investors entered the market-the cost of housing overall is now jacked-up an near unaffordable for first time buyers. Likewise soon the average joe/jane wont even be able to afford any car, and at best have no choice other than to use robo taxis within their budget. But no question Tesla benefits from all this.

He’s right that in the US the relationship with one’s vehicle is at a different level but as economic poverty grows people will become less attached and transport will and already is becoming utility. Fees, taxes, insurance and the cost to buy or lease a vehicle is already too high for approximately 12% to 15% of US occupants of driving age.

Regarding the question of how does a driverless car charge itself...no one brought up the expected mileage of such vehicles in a day. How many miles does a taxi cab driver do per day on average, and does that equal the amount of mileage a Tesla can do on a full charge? If the average miles driven in the US for personal vehicles is 40 miles...then perhaps a taxi is 200 miles at the most and so a fully charged car doesn't need to worry about charging as a huge problem. It will be a small percentage of cybercabs that run in to this issue, and a Service Center style solution could fill that gap...or a roaming and staffed Tesla Service vehicle to charge a car. But again this seems so unlikely because this is going to take off in cities first...for many years, surely not in rural areas where charging stations and service centres may be less abundant.
